Brett Goldstein: From Ted Lasso to Office Romance
Brett Goldstein has carved a unique niche for himself in the entertainment industry, transitioning from the beloved character Roy Kent in Ted Lasso to a burgeoning film career. His latest venture, Office Romance, pairs him with none other than Jennifer Lopez, a collaboration that has proven to be both exhilarating and chaotic.
The Challenge of Working with a Superstar
Filming Office Romance, a Netflix rom-com shot partly in Hoboken, New Jersey, brought Goldstein face-to-face with the realities of working alongside one of the most recognizable figures in Hollywood. The proximity of the Bronx added an extra layer of excitement and challenge, as Goldstein quickly discovered the implications of filming with Lopez.
In a candid interview with USA Today, he described the experience as “a nightmare,” particularly during the two days of outdoor shooting. “Paparazzi everywhere. Absolute madness,” he recounted, highlighting the frenzy that surrounds Lopez. This experience has led Goldstein to set firm boundaries for any future collaborations: “Next time, everything stays indoors. No exterior shots. Ever.”
A Growing Filmography
While Office Romance does not yet have a release date, it is just one of several projects on Goldstein’s plate. His latest film, All of You, is currently streaming on Apple TV+. In this sci-fi love story, Goldstein not only stars but also co-wrote the script alongside William Bridges. The chemistry between Goldstein and his co-star Imogen Poots was palpable from their very first interaction. “Five minutes into the Zoom audition, I thought, ‘I’ve known you forever,’” he recalled, emphasizing the instant connection they shared.
The journey to bring All of You to life was not without its challenges. The script had been in development for over a decade, with Goldstein and Bridges frequently revisiting the concept. “We’d be working on other stuff, and then one of us would bring it up again. Eventually, we just said, ‘We need to [expletive] write this,’” Goldstein shared, illustrating the persistence required to see their vision come to fruition.
Starstruck by Legends
Despite his rising fame, Goldstein remains humble and occasionally starstruck, particularly when it comes to working with legends like Harrison Ford. The two have collaborated on the series Shrinking, and Goldstein admits that even after three years, he still feels a sense of awe. “He’s so charming and easy, but in my head it’s always, ‘That’s Harrison Ford,’” he said, capturing the blend of admiration and excitement that comes with working alongside such an iconic figure.
The Future Ahead
As Goldstein continues to navigate his career, he is clearly focused on expanding his horizons while maintaining a sense of authenticity. Whether it’s tackling new roles, collaborating with A-list stars, or bringing long-held dreams to life, he is committed to making his mark in the industry. With a growing list of projects and a willingness to embrace both the chaos and joy of filmmaking, Brett Goldstein is undoubtedly a talent to watch in the coming years.
