As we’ve come to understand year after year, day after day even, death is unfortunately an inevitable part of life. Still, as much of a fact as that may be, the blow of experiencing loss never gets any easier, nor does reporting on the subject in Black culture. The recent passing of notable figures in the Black community serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the profound impact these individuals had on their respective fields.
### Hans ‘Prime’ Dobson
Hans ‘Prime’ Dobson was best known for his time on the cultural staple ‘Rap City’—dubbed the longest-running cable music video show to feature rap music. He hosted the show from 1989 to 1993, before moving on to continue working in media and radio. Prime was also featured in the 3-part documentary ‘Welcome to Rap City’ (2023). His official cause of death is unknown, but a relative shared on Facebook that he was 55 years old and had been suffering from liver issues while waiting on the transplant list.
