Inspiration and Premise
Based on the webtoon The Deluxe Taxi Red Cage by Carlos and Lee Jae-jin, Taxi Driver 3 delves into real-world crimes, weaving a tale that resonates with viewers. At the heart of the series is Rainbow Taxi, a high-end cab service that operates as a covert vigilante group. When the justice system fails, this team steps in to deliver their own brand of retribution, making for a thrilling viewing experience.
Episode 13-14 Recap: Dismantling an International Scam
The action picks up immediately after episode 12, with Do-gi and Seung-chul discovering that key figures behind an island-based fraud operation, including a character named Go, are attempting to flee by boat. Seizing the opportunity, Do-gi rushes to inform Go-eun and the rest of the Rainbow Taxi team, who quickly mobilize to follow the suspects to the mainland.
Uncovering the Racket
At the temple, Do-gi stumbles upon a hidden room filled with surveillance monitors, identity cards, passports, and burner phones. Among these items, he discovers a prosecutor’s pin, leading him to realize that a member of the racket is a prosecutor. This revelation explains how the group has managed to manipulate the law and operate their fraud undetected.
Meanwhile, on the mainland, Go-eun, Jin-eon, and Chief Choi are trailing the suspects but soon find themselves discovered and attacked, rendering them unconscious and taken back to the island by the fraudsters. In a parallel plot, the island’s police chief tricks Seung-chul, knocking him out as well. Shortly after, Go returns to the island with the captured members of the Rainbow Taxi team.
The Interrogation
Go confronts Do-gi directly, interrogating him about his knowledge of the island. Do-gi cleverly fabricates a story about his past, claiming to be interested in investing in the scam using seed money from Seung-chul. This ruse earns him Go’s trust, allowing him to reunite with the Rainbow Taxi team.
The Undercover Reporter
The plot thickens when the team encounters an undercover reporter who has been documenting the criminal activities on the island. The reporter reveals that he has survived an attack that killed his boss and has collected crucial evidence against Go and his operation. The Rainbow Taxi team learns that Go is a former prosecutor, and his team consists of criminals with backgrounds in illegal gambling, con artistry, and even murder.
Planning the Sting
The Rainbow Taxi team devises a plan to stage a meeting to hand over the investment money while secretly planning to hack the server and shut down the operation. Jin-eon is tasked with traveling to the mainland under the pretense of bringing investment money, while the rest of the team creates a diversion at the temple.
During the staged meeting, tensions rise as the team pretends to argue, suggesting that only one person should complete the deal. This unexpected turn rattles Go and his men, who grow increasingly suspicious of Do-gi’s true intentions.
The Climax
As the team prepares to escape, the undercover reporter sets fire to the island’s police station, joining forces with the Rainbow Taxi team. However, Go realizes what has happened and sends his men after them. The team splits up to draw the pursuers in different directions.
Do-gi finds himself cornered at a cliff, with Go’s team ramming his vehicle toward the edge. In a dramatic turn, he activates a device in his taxi, electrocuting the cars and eliminating Go’s team members. Do-gi survives and reunites with the rest of the Rainbow Taxi team.
The Final Showdown
As they regroup, they notice Go attempting to flee by boat. Acting quickly, Do-gi shoots the boat’s engine, causing it to explode and killing Go. The episode concludes with the reporter going live, presenting all the evidence collected from the island and exposing the scam to the public. The Rainbow Taxi team watches the broadcast together before heading out for a quiet meal, bringing episodes 13 and 14 to a thrilling close.
