Davie Teen Speaks, Shows Truck at National Muscle Car Event
A Rising Star in the Automotive World
For the second consecutive year, Jackson Barrett, a talented teen from Davie, received an invitation to the prestigious Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, held on November 22-23 in Chicago. This annual event is recognized as the premier national showcase for classic American muscle cars, attracting enthusiasts and collectors from across the country. Jackson’s participation not only highlights his passion for automotive craftsmanship but also underscores the importance of youth involvement in the automotive hobby.
Showcasing Passion and Dedication
This year, Jackson was one of only 15 teens and young adults selected to showcase their project cars and trucks. The event featured a panel discussion titled "Future Generation," moderated by Matt Avery, the voice of Mecum Auctions. This platform allowed young automotive enthusiasts to engage in meaningful conversations about the future of the automotive industry and the importance of attracting younger generations to this vibrant community. While Jackson participated in the panel discussions in 2024, he was unable to bring a vehicle to display. However, this year marked a significant milestone as he showcased his pride and joy: a meticulously restored 1964 Chevrolet C10 pickup truck.
A Father-Son Project
The journey of building the C10 has been a labor of love for Jackson and his father, spanning over seven years. Their dedication to the project is evident in the attention to detail and craftsmanship displayed in the truck. Completing the restoration just in time for the event was a testament to their hard work and commitment. The C10 not only represents a classic piece of American automotive history but also symbolizes the bond between father and son, making it a fitting centerpiece for their showcase.
Recognition from Industry Icons
During the event, Jackson’s efforts did not go unnoticed. He received a coveted celebrity pick award from Joe Zolper, the main personality and builder on the long-running TV show “Garage Squad.” Zolper praised Jackson’s project, emphasizing the significance of the father-son collaboration and expressing admiration for the quality of their work. Additionally, Jackson earned a Shining Star pick from the Future Generation judges and was honored with the Future Fabricator award, the highest accolade for this invitational class. This award included a handmade trophy crafted by last year’s winners, sisters Ida and Ophelia Baker of Wheaton, Illinois. In a heartwarming twist, Jackson will continue the tradition by creating a trophy to present to next year’s Future Fabricator.

As a senior at Davie High School, Jackson is looking ahead to his future. He plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the fall of 2026, where he hopes to further his education while continuing to nurture his passion for cars. His journey in the automotive world is just beginning, and with his dedication and talent, there’s no telling how far he will go.
