The event has garnered significant attention, thanks to endorsements from a host of celebrities. Six-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza, along with fitness icons like Milind Soman, actor Sunil Shetty, and filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, have taken to social media to encourage participation. Emraan Hashmi, John Abraham, Dara Singh, and singer Shankar Mahadevan have also voiced their support, emphasizing the importance of fitness and cycling in daily life.
In a heartfelt video message, Shankar Mahadevan stated, “India is coming together to take a step towards fitness by cycling. Event Spread Across 200 Centres
‘Sundays On Cycle’ will take place across more than 200 CBIC-GST centres nationwide, uniting thousands of cycling enthusiasts. This initiative is part of the Fit India Movement, which was launched in December 2024 and has already seen participation from over 300,000 individuals across 5,500 locations in the country. The event aims to foster a sense of community while promoting a healthier lifestyle.
Badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, both recipients of the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, have also expressed their support for the movement. They praised the initiative for not only promoting fitness but also advocating for environmental sustainability through cycling.
Special Event in Delhi
In the capital city, the festivities will kick off at 6:30 am, with the official flag-off scheduled for 7 am from Gate No. 1 of the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. The event promises to be a star-studded affair, featuring a special appearance by Tania Sachdev, an International Master and Woman Grandmaster in chess, who recently clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest. She will be joined by Rohtash Choudhury, affectionately known as the Push-Up Man of India.
Participants can look forward to a variety of fitness activities beyond cycling, including yoga, rope skipping, and Zumba sessions. This diverse range of activities aims to engage participants of all ages and fitness levels, making it a truly inclusive event.
Promoting a Healthier, Greener India
The ‘Sundays On Cycle’ initiative aligns seamlessly with the objectives of the Fit India Movement, which advocates for a healthier and more environmentally conscious nation. By encouraging regular exercise and promoting sustainable modes of transportation like cycling, the event seeks to inspire widespread participation across India. With prominent voices from various fields backing this initiative, the organizers hope to create a lasting impact on public health and environmental awareness.
As the nation gears up for this monumental event, the excitement is palpable. ‘Sundays On Cycle’ not only celebrates the achievements of the GST but also serves as a reminder of the importance of fitness and community engagement in building a healthier future for all.
